Maharashtrian Wedding — Thane, Maharashtra — NRI couple – Germany

Maharashtrian Wedding Photography | Prasad & Snehal | Kriyan Banquet, Thane

Some weddings travel a long way to happen. Prasad and Snehal both built their careers in Germany — two Maharashtrians who found each other far from home, in a country where the language, the food, and the skies are entirely different from what they grew up with. But when the time came to get married, there was never really a question about where. India. Thane. The way it’s always been done.

There’s something quietly moving about a couple who choose to come back. Not because they had to, but because a Maharashtrian wedding — the rituals, the family, the noise, the marigolds — meant something to them that no European venue could replicate. Prasad and Snehal understood that some moments need the right soil to take root.

The celebrations began with the Haldi at Maria Banquets, Thane. The turmeric ceremony carries its own particular warmth — paste applied with affection by everyone who loves the couple, the bright yellow against wedding clothes, the laughter that comes when someone is a little too enthusiastic with the application. For a couple who had been living so far from family, the closeness of that morning — surrounded by everyone who had missed them — had a feeling that went beyond just ritual.

The wedding itself was held at Kriyan Banquet Hall, Thane — a comfortable, familiar setting that suited the occasion perfectly. The mandap was set with the full Maharashtrian ceremony: the Antarpat raised between the couple, the Sanai Chaughada filling the hall, the priest guiding them through the Saptapadi with the sacred fire witness to every vow. Snehal’s Nauvari saree, Prasad’s traditional sherwani — they looked exactly as a Maharashtrian couple should on the most important day of their life.

What we noticed throughout the day was how present both families were. When you have relatives who have flown in, cousins who hadn’t seen each other in years, parents who had been waiting for this moment for a long time — the emotional register of the whole event is simply higher. Every ritual landed with more weight. Every group photograph had more meaning in it.

The portraits after the ceremony were shot in the golden light of a Thane afternoon — Kriyan Banquet’s spaces gave us clean, elegant frames, and the couple themselves were relaxed and easy to photograph. Two people who know each other well, who had chosen each other deliberately, who were simply happy to be exactly where they were.

Prasad and Snehal — you came home to get married, and it showed in every single frame.
