Maharashtrian Wedding — Dhiraj & Pallavi

There are love stories that defy easy explanation. Dhiraj — a German-trained engineer — found his way to Kolhapur not looking for a wedding, but found something far more enduring. Pallavi, a Kolhapur girl with deep roots in Maharashtrian tradition, probably didn’t expect her life to take a turn toward Germany either. And yet, here they were.

The wedding was held at The Fern Residency, Karad — a graceful property near Satara, set against the quiet landscape of western Maharashtra. Karad has the kind of unhurried beauty that suits a wedding where two worlds are gently finding their common ground.

The ceremony itself was traditional Maharashtrian in every meaningful way — the Antarpat lowered to the sound of the Sanai Chaughada, the Mangalsutra tied with family gathered close, the rituals carrying the full weight of generations. But there was a particular tenderness to the day that came from watching Dhiraj — this engineer from halfway across the world — receive each ritual with complete sincerity. He didn’t observe from the outside; he participated fully, and it showed.

Pallavi’s family brought all the warmth that Kolhapur weddings are known for — the marigold-heavy decor, the women dressed in deep Paithani green and red, the easy laughter that fills a room when everyone has known each other for years. The guests watched with genuine curiosity and delight, smartphones out at every moment.

As photographers, this weddings give us something precious: two sets of emotional responses to the same moments. When the Antarpat was lifted and the couple saw each other, you could feel it across both families simultaneously — a single breath held and then released.

We shot the portraits in the late afternoon when the Karad light goes golden and soft. The Fern Residency’s landscaped grounds gave us clean lines and lush greenery — a setting that suited them perfectly.
